Chapter 8: Security Issues, Ethics, and Emerging Technologies in Education
Chapter eight informed me about risks and safeguards for my computer. Viruses were introduced along with tips on how not to get them, signs of acquired virus infections, a list of ways in which they spread, and the actual definition of a virus.
A virus is an illegal computer code that can alter the programs that are in your computer and destroy the data that is stored in ther as well. Viruses are spread when the host program is shared with another computer, which in turn spreads to many many other computers. The only real way for your computer to be totally safe from a virus would be if viruses never existed. Thats not true so there are programs that were created to shield your computer from the danger of a virus.
A few ways to know whether or not your computer has a virus are: unusual messages, sounds or music, graphical images randomly pop up on your computer, there is an unexplained decrease in memory on your computer, files become corrupted, etc. I learned that there are numerous ways to detect, prevent, and be safe with the use of my computer so i will take note of this in the future.

Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Technology, Digital Media, and Curriculum Integration
This chapter does a great job at explaining what curriculum is in specific areas, states, and countries, and how it is broken dow in the school systems. The authors further continue to explain how the teachers are supposed to be able to understand the material as well as be able to teach and perform the tasks at hand in a manner that the students will be able to grasp the concepts in a timely manner throughout the school year. In the teachers' guides and books, the Department of Education set up benchmarks for the teachers to follow and watch the students closely for mastery of subject material.
I thought that this was one of the best chapters simply because this is where the book explains how important the addition of technology in the classroom has become to the latest generation. Many people of my generation take computers and ipods for granted but if you think about it, this is new to our country and culture. Although computers seem to be as present in homes now as water, we have to realize that this was not always here and this chapter brings you to appreciate the computers in classrooms more as a teacher. Having your lesson projected onto a screen from a computer is so convenient for you as a teacher and it really enhances the students learning experiences. There is always a better visual effect on the computer than your personal drawing of electrons and protons on a white board.
I was pleased with the thoughts that this chapter brought to my head while i read this week and i was an eye-opener for me.

This chapter explained the similarities, differences, and relationships between digital media, multi-media, and application software. I learned that the terms multi-media, digital media, and technology do not hold one single definition and they often overlap one-another when describing or utilizing one of the terms. Digital media is basically any object that you can click on such as text, graphics, animation, and/or videos (which would function as a link).
Since i am going to become a teacher, i know that the my classrooms will be run using the traditional white and black boards, but because our technolgy has improved massively within the last ten years, i will certainly be able to use the digital media application tool as well. Digital Media Application is the use of digital media technology in education, business and entertainment. As my teaching career gets off of the ground, i also planned on building a Montessori School in the near future, therefore i could take advantage of this tool in that project as well.
Although this chapter was not very exciting and was a slow-read, i found many useful resources that i could possibly refer to in the future as my teaching career takes off. It gave me a few more ideas about my future and how i can make it better so thats all that counts!
